Our chapter also spent time on community service and community awareness. We spent time mentoring ESL students here in Murfreesboro and sponsored two angel tree children. One of our first events in the fall was walking in the MTSU homecoming parade where we participated in the golf cart decoration competition scoring 1st place, thus putting the word out there that Futuro was a group to be reckoned with. We have collaborated with many other campus organizations including a forum about cultural issues that university students during the campus-wide initiative B.L.U.E. Nighted. Our main event of the second semester was “Sharing the Love,” an event for new students where we combined informational resources with the fun of sharing food, dancing, and music.
Since becoming an official organization on campus, we
have made great progress in meeting FUTURO’s mission and vision. It is very rewarding to see freshmen and sophomores so eager to become leaders and develop as professionals, knowing they will be ready. With over 30 new students this semester, we look forward to our future, or our future, at MTSU.

Last summer, students organized with the help of faculty to establish FUTURO as an organization on campus. On September 29th, 2011 everyone’s hard work was realized when “Futuro of MTSU” was recognized by MTSU as an official student organization. As a part of our professional development programs, we have had many guest speakers talk about topics such as planning your career, building a résumé, and the importance of internships. We enjoyed representing FUTURO of MTSU at the Skanska and State Farm open houses, at the TLACC networking lunches, and our two biannual FUTURO conferences.
